In March of 2023, Dutch Plantin was awarded the Higg certificate by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC). On top of that, we are the first coconut coir manufacturer to receive this certification. We are proud to not only be making a positive difference for people and the environment, but also to be leading the charge in our sector!
Knowledge is power
The Higg Index consists of a series of instruments that are used to assess how sustainable businesses in the industrial sector are. This advanced toolbox – developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) – is seen as one of the most comprehensive and reliable when it comes to the topic of sustainability. The goal is to help businesses all over the world accurately measure their sustainability performances. This is done across the entire value chain; from raw material to final product and even to the end of a product’s life cycle. Knowledge is power here: its Higg scores will help a business effectively set priorities and work toward achieving its sustainability targets.
From water usage to a safe working environment
Environmental management, energy and water usage, waste water management and nitrogen emissions, as well as working conditions such as a safe and healthy work environment and good employment conditions: Higg’s advanced tools and analysis techniques provide insight into all these areas. Companies are also scored on their performance. SAC then awards certifications based on these scores. At Dutch Plantin, we are incredibly proud of our now two-year partnership with Higg and the major certification we received in March of 2023.
Working on a better world
Dutch Plantin has already obtained RHP, IMO and SA8000 certifications. RHP-certified coconut coir substrates meet the quality requirements with regard to water absorption, air content, PH values and nutrients. We received the IMO India certificate for – among other things – our organic and sustainable farming, processing and export. Lastly, we received our SA8000 certification for the social responsibility we take when it comes to protecting the safety, health and wellbeing of our employees in producing countries.
